To continue on with last week’s Facebook blog theme….Facebook has evolved from a private social media networking site to a site where almost every business now advertises for friends and followers. Fan Pages were created (in my opinion) to allow followers, almost like a twitter vibe. Fans are essentially friends, but it’s tough to be a friend of a business, so they coined the “fans” term.
1. Fan Pages are Public – The majority of Facebook is hidden behind login pages, meaning the Google Crawlers are unable to index them. However Fan Pages are public, meaning that if you provide enough information on it, it works (in terms of search engines) as a small company website.
2. Fan Pages Can Send Company Updates to Your Fans – Almost like the newsfeed option, “fan updates” allow you to send messages regarding new services, products, updates, clients, press releases, etc to everyone on your fan list.
3. You Can Link off Your Fan Page – Since all Facebook Fan Pages are public, your company will gain some valuable Facebook.com link juice from links on your Fan Page.
4. The Valuable Newsfeed – When a person becomes a fan of your page, it is displayed in that person’s, as well as each of their friend’s, newsfeed, allowing everyone to see that they are now your fan. This allows for the perfect opportunity for their friends to become fans, and their friend’s friends, and their friend’s friend’s friends. You get the point. If your company creates enough interest, you could quickly find yourself with many, many fans.
5. You Create And Control All Page Content – You provide any and all “about us”, “product & services”, “client information”, etc. You also have the power to send updates, add new pictures, and update profile information. This allows for you to quickly and effectively keep your Facebook Fan Page updates up to date along with your company website.
6. Your Status Updates are shown on the Newsfeed – Just like a private individual’s profile, status updates are displayed on the newsfeed without having to send a message or have a new fan join. At TriMark Solutions, we often add a link to our new blogs to our Facebook Fan Page status updates, which displays to all of our Fans’ Newsfeeds.
7. Fan Pages are Simple, Free, & Useful – Creating a Fan Page is quick and simple. Simply add some company info, a web address, and a photo. Just don’t forget to jump on your personal Facebook profile and become a fan, and tell your friends to as well. Get that viral snowball rolling downhill, and see how big it can get.
