How to Be a Better Blogger
Author: Dylan Benton | Filed under: SEO - Tip of The Day, Tips & ToolsBlogging the newest and greatest thing on the internet, so how have the ones who have successes big done it? It’s really no secret, here’s what you do to become a quality blogger:
- Create content worth reading – People (as well as search engines) want fresh, new, unique, and useful content. Writing the same thing that 200 other bloggers have already written won’t help much. You need to write from a new perspective, offering a new and unique outlook on the situation.
- Make it all free and easy – Don’t make your visitors sign up to comment on your blog. Make it simple and quick, allowing them to say what they need to say, and move on. This will lead to a higher number of spam comments, but it’s worth taking the time to remove them, for your reader’s sake. This will also build trust in the eyes of your readers, as they see you are providing them with free quality information.
- Try new tactics – Don’t post the same boring types of blogs over and over, try some new things. Experiment with different types and lengths of blog posts, add videos, link out, etc. You have to change it up, or readers will likely get tired of your blogs. Make the reader expect something new every day, that’s how you get return visits. Even within your content, change it up. Tell stories, make jokes, and interact with the readers. Make them enjoy reading your content.
- Be yourself – When writing, don’t try to write for your boss, or for your college professor. Write for your reader, and for yourself. Keeping a calm and colloquial feel to your blogs will inspire trust and respect within your readers. They want to feel like they are talking to a friend, so try to make your blog posts come off this way. I like to try to add jokes or hints of sarcasm within my posts to bring a little humor.
- Build partnerships and friendly relationships – Commenting back on blog comments with helpful answers and useful information will help build you credibility as an industry expert and friend. Also, commenting on other blogs with similar interests is another good way to get your name into the industry, and hopefully attract visitors back to your blogs to read your full articles of what you have to say.
- Sell yourself with your product or service – Selling your product or service will get the reader to your site once, selling yourself will bring them back. Sell yourself through honesty, personality, and your unique character. You don’t have to be perfect, just genuine.
- Always try to post your best stuff – This is much easier said than done. Any and every writer knows, sometimes you just hate what you write, and no matter how you change it or reword it, it just doesn’t sound as good on the computer screen as it does in your head. However, my point is to not post sub-par work for the simple sake of posting. If you think a topic or blog isn’t up to your standard, rewrite it. If it still sucks, dump it. Start over fresh, or maybe give it a bit of time, and come back to it later.

Blogging is an effective and useful method of distributing information quickly and on a potentially very large scale. However, not everyone is cut out to be a blogger. If you don’t understand what my above tips were saying, or why I am suggesting what I am, then maybe you shouldn’t blog for your company.
