There are numerous SEO techniques used by bloggers that can help drive traffic. Many are very effective, but some are not considered “best practice”. Try to remember, that if a method or strategy seems “shady”, then it most likely is. Unethical practices are known as “black hat” techniques, and Google will severely penalize websites and blogs found using these techniques. The following tips are all considered ethical SEO techniques:
• Even if using WordPress, name the directory “blog”, instead of “wordpress”
• Utilize Keyword Tools (such as Adwords Keyword Tool) to see which keywords are most searched.
• Separate Keywords in URLs with dashes or underscores.
• Use relevant keyword alternatives throughout your blog posts.
• Use full-text RSS feeds to create and sustain loyal readers.
• Take advantage of AdSense and Google Analytics to track traffic and statistics.
• Properly test your robots.txt before going live with your blog.
• Don’t Spam your blog content with keywords, write naturally.
• Offer tutorials, tips, live blogging, advice, or instructional videos to draw viewers.
• Discuss controversial topics in order to gain attention and conversation, as well as promote commenting and popularity.
• Look at other successful blog sites to get ideas on winning techniques.
