April Blog 3 of 12: How to Use Fresh Content to Keep Your Top Google Rank
Author: Dylan Benton | Filed under: April Blog Event, Duplicate ContentBlog #3 continues on our Week 1 theme of Increasing Online Visibility & Presence. This time, we discuss ways to keep your website fresh, current, and up to date.
So, you’ve followed our SEO Tips and gotten your website to the first page of Google for your key search terms?! Congrats! Now how do you stay there? There really is only one best way.
Fresh Content!
If you are a fan of Matt Cutts, then you have probably seen his explanation of why fresh content is so useful in the eyes of search engines. It is a very simple process:
1) Fresh Content is New.
2) New Content is Up to Date.
3) Up to Date Content is (usually) Reliable.
4) Reliable Content is Correct.
5) Correct Content is what Google Users are Searching for!
6) By Using the Transitive Property (for all you math majors out there) Fresh Content is what Google Users are Searching for!
Because Google thinks this way, and we all have to play by Google’s rules, it is not only recommended, but imperative that you update your site with fresh, relevant, and non-duplicate content, so that Google continues to index your site regularly, and rank it well in the SERPs. Simply put, your online visibility will suffer greatly if your site stops ranking well in Google results. And the best way to keep your site ranking is to not rely on information that has been outdated since 2006.

Another important idea to remember is that on every SERP, Google shows dates of pages beside search results (see image). These dates give users a quick idea for exactly how new and updated the website is. And unless they are writing a history paper, most users are not interested in SEO tips from 2006. They want to see SEO Tips from 2010! The more cutting edge and up to date the information is, the better!
Well this wraps up Week 1 of the TriMark Solutions April Blogging Event. Week 2 consists of Professional Tips for Creating & Implementing a Successful PPC Campaign. Please check back with us early next week for many unique and beneficial PPC campaign tips!
